CVNG 2006 Structural Design Reinforced Concrete Component

Q1 Column Design
You were told that a column of 400mm x 400mm was to be used to take a loading of 2800
kN. You were given the usual parameters such as fy and fc , as well as the links which were to
be used for the column.
Hence:
- Determine the area of reinforcement required
- Check the tie spacing

Q2 Beam Design

You were given the usual parameters of fy and fc as well as the dimensions of the beam,
reinforcement, ties and covers of both the top and bottom.
Hence:
- Determine the moment capacity
- Determine the shear capacity

Q3 T Beam Design

You were given the dimensions of the web, thickness of flange, covers to top and bottom,
length of spannot too sure if links were given. You were also given fy and fc.
Hence:
-Determine moment capacity
-Determine shear capacity

Q4 Fundamentals and Basics

You were given the diagrams above showing dimensions of a simply supported beam
with a dead and live load (point) centrally above as well as the usual parameters.
Hence:
-Determine using service loading the distance at which cracking will first occur from the left
hand side of the beam.
-Determine the factored load and hence sketch the bending moment and shear force
diagram for the beam.
