CITY TOUR OF QUITO
If you want to explore the treasures of Latin Americas ornate
churches and flowered plazas, take a guided tour of the colonial
center of Quito.
We visit the Panecillo hill in the middle of the old town (a lookout
point in the old town), which affords the best view of Quito, Then
we come down to see the Presidential Palace, Independence
Square, the Churches of San Francisco, La Compania and La
Catedral.
The duration of the tour is about 3 or 4 hours.
Entrance fees for the churches and Panecillo are not included in

QUITO BY NIGHT
Enjoy a drive into the old city and a stroll around the romantic
plaza and churches by night. The dramatic illuminations create
unique atmosphere and highlands the baroque architecture that
passes unnoticed during the day, we will finish the trip after a
drive up to the hill of the Panecillo from where you see the all city
and it's surroundings. After that your guide will drive you back to
your hotel or to a local restaurant or a bar.
This trip takes about 2,5 or 3 hours depending of the traffic and
can depart everyday night.

THE EQUATOR LINE
We go northern of the city for about 45 minutes to get to the
"Middle of the World monument" that was built during the XVII
century when a French expedition defined the precise location of
the equatorial line. We will go inside of the monument and then to
the Inti an local museum where you can see different
experiments to prove that you are at the Center of the Earth.
This trip takes about 3 hours and can depart everyday.

OTAVALO INDIAN MARKET
Otavalo market is considered one the biggest and best Indian
markets in South America. Here you can find all the handicrafts
that are made in Ecuador. We head north along the Pan-

American highway for 2.5 hours. On the way if you want

we can visit the village of Calderon to see the bread
figures and Cayambe to taste the typical biscochos (local
biscuits). After you have explored the Otavalo market, we
go to the leather market at Cotacachi or to Cuicocha Lake
for a hike. The official Market Day is Saturday, but any
other day is still interesting, and has less tourists. This is a
full-day tour, leaving at approximately 8AM any day.

COTOPAXI VOLCANO
We depart by private JEEP for about 2 hours by avenue of
the volcanoes till we get to the impressive Cotopaxi, an
active volcano at a height of 5,897 meters. During our stay
at the National Park we will visit its museum, to learn
about the natural environment of the place, its animals and
plants, and visit the Limpiopungo lagoon. Then we walk
approximately 1.5hrs to the refuge at 4800m
In the afternoon, you will return to Quito.

**SAQUISILI MARKET AND COTOPAXI NATIONAL
PARK.
Saquisili is another important market close to Quito,
located in the south of Quito. A wonderful scenic drive of
approximately 3 hours gives you the opportunities to
have great views of the volcanoes.
Here, the Indians bring their products from over the
highlands to sell, such as handicrafts from Salasaca,
Otavalo and Chimborazo. You will also find an animal
market. This is an intensive day and leaves early only on
THURSDAY.

ANTISANA TREK
We depart in the morning towards the south east of Quito.
Upon entering the Antisana reserve, we will be able to
observe the impressive lava flows from the young volcano
Antisana which form 2 lakes, above which nest and
live Condors and other important Andean birds, which with
weather permitting, we will be able to observe soaring
above. After we will arrive at the Hacienda Antisana
(optional to have lunch over there), (3600masl), on the
flanks of the forth-highest volcano in Ecuador, Antisana
(5700masl), famous for the studies on volcanoes, carried
out in the 18th century by Alexander Von Humbolt. From
here is possible to hike around the flanks of the volcano

and observe much more flora and fauna. We return to Quito

late that afternoon, after a full days tour. We recommend to
bring a box lunch.

BELLAVISTA CLOUD FOREST
To see the cloud forest and to experience the changes in the
temperature and vegetation, you have to go to Bellavista
cloud forest.
Bellavista cloud forest reserve is located at 0,00,46 latitude in
northwestern Ecuador, on the edge of Choco which is among
the most bio-diverse places in the word.Things to do:
a)Birds here are always active, specially early morning. from
the joy of watching hummingbirds on your private balcony, to
exploring in search of elusive forest species, 320 species of
birds have been recorded in the Tandayapa valley.
b) Hikes through primary and secondary forest.

PAPALLACTA HOT SPRINGS
We drive about 2 hours east of Quito on the road to Baeza,
rest in the hot springs of Papallacta. The baths range from
ice cold to hot as hell. Weekday visits are recommended over
weekends, as the resort can become quite crowded on
weekends. We take a short cut, passing by the church of
Guapulo and have a wonderful ride in the paramo (tundra).
The highest point reached is 4150m; we descend to a
spectacular setting at 3300m.Things to do: a)hot springs
(different temperatures) big and small ones, while enjoying
views of the Antisana volcano 5700m, b) trekking up the
river or just relax in the spa (ask for details in the hotel).
Option: Lunch at the restaurant offers typical dishes such as
trout. Return to Quito in the afternoon.
