The digestive system

Name

 Class

Label the parts of the digestive system.

mouth oesophagus liver stomach
large intestine pancreas small intestine anus

oesophagus

The food travels

down this tube to
our stomach.
b

This is where we
chew food with
our teeth and
mix the food with
saliva.

These send juices

to the small
intestine so that
our body can now
absorb the nutrients
in the food.

This part of the

digestive system is
like a mixer and it
uses gastric juices
to turn the food
into a thick liquid.

c
This is a long tube
which breaks down
the food mixture
even more.
d
This is a wide tube. Here our
body has its last chance to take
water from the remains of the
food.

This part of our digestive

system is where the
remains of the food finally
leave our body.

Ask the pupils to look at the diagram of the digestive system. Say the parts of the digestive system in
turn and get them to point to the part as you say it.
Elicit from the pupils what each part of the digestive system does.
Ask them to read the sentences and write the names of the parts of the digestive system.
