Topic for lesson: The Middle of Everywhere
English Content Standards:
LA 10.1.6 Comprehension: Students will construct meaning by applying prior
knowledge, using text information, and monitoring comprehension while
reading increasingly complex grade-level literary and informational text.

Objective:

Student will read the first 3 to 4 pages of The Middle of Everywhere excerpt.
Students will pick one of the countries where the refugees have come to Lincoln
from (i.e. Vietnam, Sudan, etc) and will make a brochure of that country that.
Brochure should include: languages spoken, religions, holidays, traditions, where
the country is located, population, and why/ how people of that country have
become refugees, etc.
Students will need to be creative and must include at least 1 illustration.

Materials:
9x11 paper
Coloring materials
Ways to research (i.e. internet, textbook)
