Service Note

Title: Distance between needle and vessels too small

Author: Nick Schalock
Technical Problem:
This effects only analysers with a XY-system: During the horizontal movement of the YXsystem there has to be a distance between the tip of the needle and the caps of the
vessels. If the tip of the needle is touching the caps of the vessels during the horizontal
movement a damage to the needle and to the analyser might occur.
Solution:
The default hight of the needle is set by a parameter in the operating system. You can find
this setting in the service adjustment-screen. In order to change the setting you have to
abort the run-mode (F10) and press ALT-115 in the main menu. The parameter is named
Y0, vert. pos. test run and can be found on the last page of the operating parameters (cf.
picture).

The highlighted number counts the amount of steps the Y-axis is coming down from its
topmost vertical position (indicated by the signal of the reed switch at the axis). Therefore
decreasing this value will increase the gap between the tip of the needle and the vessels.
It is safe to reduce this value down to 40 60. Store the changes using F2 and perform a
test run to check the new distance.
If this does not solve the initial problem please contact the technical service.
