Legend of Tangkuban Perahu

Once upon a time, there was a princess from jawa barat kingdom called Dayang Sumbi. She had a
son named Sangkuriang, he was very interested in hunting.

He always went hunting with tumang, which was royal’s beloved pet. Sangkuriang didn’t know
that Tumang was His father and God’s globule.

One day, Tumang didn’t want obey Sangkuriang order to hunt. Sangkuriang was very mad, he it
into forest.

Back to the castle, Sangkuriang told his mother what happened, His mother became extremely
mad when she heard that. Accidentally she knocked Sangkuriang’s head hardly made his head injured.
Sangkuriang was very disappointed then he went to wandering.

After that event, Dayang Sumbi felt heavily regret herself. She went to pray and often went to
recluse herself. One day, Gods gifted her eternal young and beauty

Year by year passed, Sangkuriang went back to his homeland. The kingdom that he left many
years ago was totally different. He met a beautiful girl who was his mother, Dayang Sumbi. Enchanted by
her beauty, he proposed Dayang Sumbi. Dayang sumbi also enchanted by him.

One day, Sangkuriang ask for leave for hunting. He asked Dayang Sumbi to tighten his headband.
Dayang Sumbi surprised that he saw a scar on his head that exactly same as his son that went to
wandering long ago, She was so afraid. Then she tried to stop the propose from Sangkuriang, she gave 2
request to Sangkuriang. First, he had to bank Citarum river. Second, she asked Sangkuriang to make a
large canoe that can be used to cross that river, those request must finished before dawn.

That night, Sangkuriang went to recluse. By his supernatural power he summoned supernatural beings
to do that request. Silently Dayang Sumbi was spying the work. When the work almost finished,
she order her troops to thrown up red silk at the eastern town. Sangkuriang saw the red color at
east and he thought that it was dawn, he stopped the work and he mad because he can’t fulfill the
request that Dayang Sumbi gave. With his power, he broken down the bank that he made, the
town flooded and he kicked the canoe he made. The canoe flew then fell inverted (so it will
looks like a mount) become a mountain called “Tangkuban Perahu” now.
