Blairs health classes will be incorporating CPR and AED certification into the course beginning next year. According to Blair health teacher John Macdonald, The importance of CPR Training for students is in providing them with the skills and knowledge to potentially save a life. Studies have shown that children as young as 9 years old can learn and retain CPR skills. According to the American Heart Association, Sudden cardiac arrest can happen to anyone at any time. Many victims appear healthy with no known heart disease or other risk factors. The inclusion of CPR and AED certification in the health curriculum will help students feel more comfortable in assisting someone if they go into cardiac arrest. CPR/ AED certification should not only benefit Blair students, but humanity as a whole. Eventually, all people who went to an MCPS high school will have been certified and even if that certification expires, they will have some experience in rescue breathing and AED operations, said Macdonald.
