Three Strikes Is More Than Enough
The University of Utah has officially announced that in the near future they will only be
allowing students only three attempts to pass a class, excluding extremely abnormal
circumstances. This will come as a shocking wake up call to many students who were previously
under the false impression that as long as they take the class enough times that they will
eventually pass sometime. Now, with this new policy, this attitude towards education will not be
sufficient. It will eliminate the students that merely show up to class because they have to and
not because they really want to be there, which in turn aids the professors to not have to waste
their time with unmotivated students.
Along with other positive effects of this change, a major one is it will raise the quality
and prestige of students attending the University of Utah. This elevates its standing with the
other Pac 12 schools so it is now their equal in this category. As its ranking goes up, more
students will go there, therefore raising more money for the schools expenses.
In addition to increased financial cushion and standards that are up to par, another huge
benefit to limiting class retakes is that it strongly discourages idleness and laziness in school. If a
student only has three possible tries to pass, it will influence their study habits because there is an
added pressure. By doing this, it better prepares young adults for the real world and the work
force. If they have developed strong habits of depending on second, third, and fourth chances,
those same practices will manifest themselves in future jobs, making it increasingly more
difficult to obtain a well paying occupation.

These and more are reasons why this new policy released by the University of Utah
stating that students have a maximum of three attempts to pass a class is the best possible course
of action to solve this issue.
