Unit 2 Lesson 1: The Engineering Design Process
Communicating processes and results
12.Communicating processes and results
a) Demonstrate the operation of your Crane Strain device to the class. As part of your demonstration,
describe the steps involved in creating your device.
We observed our criteria and constraints, and began working without much of a design. We knew
roughly what we were doing and had a sketch of what it might look like, but nothing was set in stone. On
the first day building, we had already violated a constraint. We used a lot more popsicle sticks than we
were allowed and had to take it apart. After we did that, we placed the right amount of popsicle sticks in
the places we could, and attached the string to the crane. Unexpectedly, our crane held the most weight
within our class.
b) Complete the Crane Strain Efficiency calculations (

data to the teacher.
