I plan on attending Grossmont Community College located in California, San Diego. My
major for community college will be Biology: Ecology, Behavior and Evolution. I will pursue my associate degree before I transfer to the University of California, San Diego and receive my bachelor's degree. My pros and cons of this plan relate to my chances of actually becoming a marine biologist and finishing my schooling in four to six years. It is fortunate that my major for biology correlates to University of California, San Diego's classes. However, the issue of how many classes I will have to take may be overwhelming. On a more positive note, my chosen studies will help me get a job in a field I specifically know all about. While in community college, I plan to make it a goal to complete the courses needed for my career. I will meet with a counselor to develop an education plan that will put me on the path to my associate degree. When choosing this particular major, I made sure that almost all the classes I take in community college are applicable to UCSD. During my coursework, I will remind myself of how important it is to get a 3.0 or higher in my classes. Once I earn my associate degree, I will make sure to meet all of my deadlines by visiting the transfer center frequently so that I can transfer to UCSD after two years. I want to transfer to University of California, San Diego. At the four-year university, my strategy is to eventually receive my bachelors degree in Biology. In the future, I hope to have a career that lets me travel but also gives me time off in the process. I would prefer hands-on experience with animals in their habitats. Once I absorb all the experiences needed to be a marine biologist, I will hopefully start a research job in the Pacific Ocean.
