Mass of Sugar Lab

Objective:
___ I can demonstrate how to use a triple beam balance.
Activity 1 (group)
Directions:
1. Carefully examine the food labels on your 3 breakfast items.
2. Complete the chart below. (be sure to use units!)

Activity 2 (group)
Directions: You are to make a visual model of how much sugar is
in your items.
1. Carefully place a plastic bag on the triple beam balance.
2. Slowly scoop sugar in the bag until you reach the mass for
your first item.
3. Seal and label your bag with the permanent marker. (ex OJ
13 g)
4. Repeat with your remaining breakfast items.
Activity 3 (whole class)
Directions:
1. As your group is called the d person will bring their
breakfast items and sugar to the front of the class.
2. Look carefully at the graph.
3. Place your items in front of the bar that represents your
data.
