Myanmar ambassador says his country, like

Pak, exists for China

BEIJING: Myanmar's ambassador in Beijing, Thit Linn Ohn, has said that his country
"exist for China", and wants to be treated as favorably as Beijing deals with
Pakistan."China has already established Gwadar Port in Pakistan," Ohn told the
official media in Beijing adding, "Myanmar is the lower part, and Pakistan is upper
part. They are both exist for China."The comment is significant because it comes at
a time of historical change in Myanmar's political system from a military dictatorship
to a democracy. The ambassador even discussed the political changes in his country
while reassuring China that the bilateral relationship would not change. China was
Myanmar's closest allay during the long years it was under military rulers, and
suffered from western sanctions."No matter how our internal situation has changed,
I firmly believe the relationship between our two countries will not alter," the
ambassador told the government run, china.org.cn.Myanmar has awarded a contract
to a Chinese company to build a seaport in its Kyaukpyu area near the Bay of
Bengal. It will be a crucial link in the 2,800-km-long BCIM (Bangladesh, China, India,
Myanmar), the official website said. The interview took place on Friday, which is
when the new president was confirmed in Myanmar. The website also quoted the
ambassador as saying that China has voiced its support for Myanmar no matter what
the political and economic choices of its people. "That is the mutual understanding
we need," he said.Ohn said there will be no change in the relationship between
China and Myanmar because the new government realized the importance of the
bilateral relationship between the two neighbors.Noting that Myanmar is going
through a period of transition between governments, he said his task was to convey
signals going out of Beijing to enable the new government to understand China
better."To learn from the development of neighboring countries is very important for
Myanmar," Ohn, who was appointed in Beijing two years back, said.

information about its Silk Road program to convince the people of Myanmar of its
benefits to them.
