What are the benefits of a healthy school environment?

Terdapat kajian yang menunjukkan bahawa sekolah yang berpencapaiaan tinggi

mempunyai tahap keceriaan yang lebih baik berbanding sekolah yang persekitarannya
kurang ceria (Mohd Redzauddin bin Ismail, 2008). Oleh hal yang demikian, suasana dan
iklim sekolah adalah amat penting dalam membantu pelajar untuk belajar dengan
tenteram dan selesa. Selain itu, apabila kawasan persekitaran sekolah yang cantik dan
ceria, pelajar tidak akan jemu untuk hadir ke sekolah lagi kerana merasa bahagia berada
di kawasan sekolah. Hal ini bukan sahaja dapat mengelakkan masalah ponteng sekolah
dalam kalangan pelajar malah masalah disiplin pelajar dapat dikurangkan kerana emosi
pelajar tidak terganggu. Dalam masa yang sama, sesebuah sekolah yang cantik dan
menarik pasti akan mendapat pujian daripada pelbagai pihak terutamanya ibu bapa
pelajar yang menghantar anak-anak mereka ke sekolah. Mereka akan bertambah yakin
dengan pihak pentadbiran sekolah yang mampu mewujudkan suasana sekolah yang
kondusif bagi membantu proses pembelajaran anak-anak mereka.

Salah satu halangan tehadap melaksanakan sesuatu projek keceriaan biasanya timbul
daripada masalah kewangan. Dalam hal ini, semua pihak patut bekerjasama termasuklah,
pengetua, guru-guru, staf-staf sekolah, para pelajar dan pihak Persatuan Ibu Bapa dan
Guru (PIBG). Pihak sekolah perlu berusaha mencari penaja, pelajar pula boleh
menjalankan kutipan derma melalui program-program tertentu, guru-guru pula membantu
para pelajar menjalankan program-program amal. Selain itu, gotong-royong secara
berkala, pertandingan keceriaan kelas, membersihkan kawasan sekolah 5 minit sebelum
kelas bermula, mampu memastikan kebersihan dan keceriaan kelas di tahap yang baik.
Kadang kala halangan untuk mewujudkan budaya cinta akan kebersihan dan keceriaan
sekolah adalah berpunca daripada segelintir guru dan para pelajar yang enggan
memberikan kerjasama. Oleh itu, sikap dan gaya kepimpinan pihak pengurusan sekolah
yang berwibawa seharusnya mampu menangani halangan ini dengan sebaiknya.
Sekiranya iklim dan persekitaran sekolah dalam keadaan yang bersih dan ceria, sudah
pasti motivasi dan prestasi pelajar dapat ditingkatkan ke tahap yang optimum seterusnya
mewujudkan budaya sekolah yang positif.
