Jurassic Park Warning Essay
There are many problems in the world today. Most of these problems
are the result of modern humanity. One of the bigger problems in the world is
that the belief that humans need to save their planet. Many people say that
humans are hurting the planet with their garbage, pollution, and making
some animals become extinct, but humans are not hurting their planet but
themselves. This problem was expressed by the character Ian Malcolm who
was in the book called Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton.
In the book Jurassic Park Ian Malcolm tells the readers the problem. Ian
Malcolm says to us about the problem, Lets be clear. The planet is not in
jeopardy. We are in jeopardy. We havent got the power to destroy the
planet---or save it. But we might have the power to save ourselves (Crichton
369). What Crichton is saying is that humans cant even come close to
destroying the world but they can destroy themselves. People may say that
the planet is being hurt because humans are dumping garbage everywhere,
but the earth will eventually decompose all of it. It is the humans who might
not live to see that day.

If humans, say, were to have a bad accident and most of life is gone some
will still be there Life would survive our folly Malcolm said only we think it
wouldnt (Crichton 368). Humans need to stop believing that they can
destroy life and start believing that they can destroy themselves and might
already be. Life would survive humans even if they are destroying it. Humans
are the only things that could hurt themselves.
There are many causes of humans being in jeopardy. One of the
causes of humans being in jeopardy is Scientists are actually preoccupied
with accomplishment. So they are focused on whether they can do
something. They never stop to ask if they should do something (Crichton
284). What Crichton is saying is that humans have created things that
arguably should not have ever been created. Cars for example are a big
contribution to the pollution in the air, pollution that is poisonous to humans
and is already having consequences on some populations. Humans need
scientist to see the consequences of their actions, They dont have the
intelligence. They have what I call thintelligence. They see the immediate
situation. They think narrowly and they call it being focused. They dont see
the surround. They dont see the consequences (Crichton 284). When the
inventor who invented the car they never thought of the consequences it
could have he was just thinking of how he could build a horseless carriage.

Science can tell humans how to build a weapon but not the consequences of
using that weapon could be. Crichton is proposing that humans should not
try to convince people to save the planet but themselves because that is
what they are actually destroying.

Many of todays problems have been caused by the creation of

something. When humans say save the planet they should say save
humanity. Humans are the only thing that can hurt humans. The
aforementioned will make more people motivated because many people
dont care what happens to the planet but they do care about themselves, so
humans need to get their goals straight.
