What if America had Lost

the Revolutionary War?

Ethan David, Zena Stefanos,

More Taxes, More Problems

One of the colonists greatest fear of
losing was Britain raising the taxes
even higher than they already were.
Britain most likely would have done
this as well as demand reparations for
the revolt.
Effect: America wouldve been
impoverished and close to that of a
third-world country.

No More Slavery
Britain had abolished slavery in
1833. If America was still under
control of Britain, slavery wouldve
been abolished 32 years earlier.
Effect: America wouldve avoided the
Civil War.

The Continent Itself Would Be

Altered
British victory wouldve kept colonists from
settling in the Midwest, stifling westward
expansion. Although France had given Britain
territory that expanded to the Mississippi after
the French and Indian War, Britain wanted to
keep this newly acquired land unsettled and
wild. Not only this, but Mexico wouldve kept its
territories of Texas and California as there
wouldnt have been the Mexican-American War.
Effect: The American colonies wouldve been
very small.
