1. How would you describe rhetoric?

What is the rhetorical situation and how do you see an

awareness of this concept affecting your writing and behaviors?
Rhetoric is the means whereby language spoken or written may be rendered effective.
(Alexander Bain) and it is an art that aims to improve the capability of writers or speakers to
inform, most likely to persuade, or motivate particular audiences in specific situations.
Rhetoric is the study that teaches us how to invent thought, and how to express it most
appropriately in words. And also it can be defined as the ways of approaching and framing the
encounter of the world through communication. According to my view rhetoric is relating to, or
concerned with the art of speaking or writing formally and effectively especially as a way to
persuade or influence people.
There are three parts to understanding the context of a rhetorical situation; exigency, audience
and constraints and the rhetorical situation is any situation where people are communicating
which contains a number of elements such as rhetor (the person addressing an audience),
audience (the audience addressed by the rhetor), purpose (what the rhetor is trying to achieve
with the audience), context (where and when the rhetor and audience are interacting) and
strategies (those skills, tools, or arts that the rhetor is using to try and achieve their purpose with
their audience given their context).
When writing anything such as article, journals; rhetorical can be used. Because it can make an
attractive & understandable view for readers. Rhetorical can improve creativity of the written
things. Writers, speakers, and many others who study rhetoric analyze and work with various
rhetorical situations. Rhetoric is useful to persuade the audience.
2. Describe a recent writing experience or activity where you used rhetoric to effectively convey
a message to a specific audience? What was the purpose of the message? Who was the audience?
How did you go about appealing to that audience?

I used rhetoric for writing project proposal under my undergraduate research. Purpose of that
was to inform what we are going to do in future in expanded way. In that case I needed to
convey doing my project is very much effective to the society. For that, I used a format to
provide information clear way. It included sub topics so it is easy to understand what I am going
to do for the reader. In that my target audience is supervisor & course coordinator. In addition to
that, when I was writing this proposal, I used introduction to provide background information,
and for that I used rhetoric to get more attention of the supervisor.

3. In what ways do you see your understanding of rhetoric and the rhetorical situation affecting
your future writing projects?
I think rhetoric and the rhetorical situation are very beneficial to write future writing projects. As
a undergraduate I have to write more writing projects in my future studying period. Therefore, it
is important for me to be able to see my own writing projects in my own rhetorical situations
Rhetorical and rhetorical situations can make any writing process as very good understandable
way with more attraction to audience. According to my view rhetoric and the rhetorical situation
will promote to improve emotional feature of future writing projects. As well as I can get quick
appealing for my future projects by using my understanding of rhetoric and the rhetorical
situation. Furthermore, credibility of projects can be increased by using understanding of rhetoric
and the rhetorical situation.
Rhetoric and the rhetorical situation can be applied throughout my future projects to achieve my
goals.

4. The WPA Outcomes lists Rhetorical Knowledge first in the list of outcomes areas. What
does this say about the importance of rhetorical knowledge to writing? Given your experience of
the course so far, how important does rhetorical knowledge seem to writing and the writing
process?

The reason for adding Rhetorical Knowledge first in the list of outcomes areas is the
importance of that concept. The major important thing is it makes much more attention about
written media from audience. By that can buildup strong bond between target audience & the
written media. In the other words, if there no rhetorical performance in the written media, thats
mean its like a vacuum. If use rhetoric and the rhetorical situation, whatever the terminology can
express as good idea.
When writing always important to focus on a purpose. Arguments become more effective by
focusing on a purpose, as they have a target, a goal that is in mind the entire time when the
purpose is clear, the audience will know how to evaluate the argument.
There is an expected format for every situation, and it is important not to diverge too much from
the expected format, or else the audience may be confused. For the different kinds of rhetorical
situations should respond appropriately. Different strategies are used for different situations. For
the project should not use informal tone and have to use formal tone.
