Custom Message: Need assistance, W.D.Lake Trailhead Parking Lot ASAP. Non-EMS event.
*Any time this button is used well make a number of serious attempts to call Kevin Clegg on our
cell phone. Will leave message if no answer. Be aware its a slim chance of us finding service in
McCormick.
*If we need to meet Kevin Clegg at the northern trailhead parking lot entrance of McCormick,
many attempts to reach him via cell phone will be made. If calls cannot be connected we will
assume use of southern White Deer Lake Trailhead parking lot. If repeated custom message
shows a route towards the northern end of McCormick near the Yellow Dog River assume well
meet at that trailhead parking lot in the northern region. If in very remote region, it may take our
team up to 24-48 hours to reach the trailhead. Will continue hitting the custom message button
to send updated locations.*

*Similar to the custom message, if you see multiple help/SPOT Assist messages be sure to
note which direction group is heading. Will use northernmost trailhead if needed, but assume
were headed to the White Deer Lake Trailhead if you dont hear anything else or if you see
were heading south instead of north.

Emergency Procedures
In the event of an injury or illness:
Assess the victim to determine level of care needed. Instructors and/or students should
provide medical care consistent with their capabilities and/or level of medical certification.
Maintain a SOAP note for the victim and any other necessary documentation of events, time,
and environment. Complete incident report as soon as possible.
If the necessary care is beyond the scope of what can be provided in the field or exceeds the
level of medical certifications present an evacuation should be organized and implemented.
An evacuation timetable should be consistent with the severity of the injury, group ability,
resources and the environment.
If the group cannot evacuate the victim due to the extent of the injury or illness, resources or
environment, an instructor and one other will return to the vehicles and call for help.
If students are traveling without an instructor and there is an illness or injury
requiring medical attention the same procedures should be followed. The following additional
procedures should be considered:
If the injury or illness is considered minor and can be treated in the field, the instructors must
be notified of the occurrence as soon as possible. Students should be prepared to describe
the injury or illness, the events leading up to and any medical attention provided.
If the injury or illness is considered major, three students should be sent to contact the
instructors. Students should be prepared to describe the injury or illness, the events leading

up to and any medical attention provided.

If the injury or illness is considered major and immediate evacuation is necessary, two
students should travel to the vehicles to call for help. At the same time, two students should
contact the instructors. Depending on the severity of the emergency, the students should
make contact with the instructors before calling for help.

Tentative Itinerary
Its very possible the group will deviate from our tentative itinerary. This will most likely
be due to a number of variables such as group capabilities, terrain, weather, safety of
stream/water crossings, time constraints, etc. In the event of a deviation of itinerary well
be sure to update our SPOT locator device every 24 hours with an Okay-Checking-In
message to give our new camp location and status of the group. UTMs are given for
each camp location, its to be assumed these are in the vicinity of the coordinates given,
not exact locations.
