The Plastic Surgery Club at NYU Medical School serves as a forum for
common interest and as a starting point for medical student involvement in
plastic surgery. The club aims to explore the clinical aspects of plastic surgery by hosting a series of lectures on plastic surgery topics and by presenting the latest developments in plastic surgical research. At the beginning of each year The Plastic Surgery Club hosts an informal meet-and-greet, which gives medical students the opportunity to meet and network with NYU Plastic Surgery attendings and residents. Additionally, the club holds quarterly meetings with plastic surgery faculty and residents to discuss various topics within the field of plastic surgery. Members of the club also have the invaluable opportunity to form advisoradvisee relationships with the NYU Plastic Surgery attendings. Every Saturday one of the NYU Plastic Surgery attendings has cases starting at 7:30am in the Tisch main ORs on the 6th floor. Medical students in all years are invited to scrub into and first or second assist. This provides an invaluable opportunity to see and participate in plastic surgery and to understand the discipline early on in the medical school career. The purpose of the Surgery Club is to introduce students to the surgical specialty and its associated subspecialties. Past activities have included suture clinics, meetings with residents and fourth year medical students placed in surgery to answer questions about the specialty, demonstrations of the DaVinci Robot in University Hospital and events with local surgeons and staff.
