ARTICLE CRITIQUE 2

You as a manager will have to read research articles and research reports. You should
be able to judge the quality of the articles and also understand their conclusions. This is
necessary for you to able to improve your knowledge in the area of the article and
improve your decision making ability.
There are various questions listed for each section of the research report/article. You
have to read and re-read the article so that you are able to craft well thought out
answers to the questions. Not all questions would be relevant to your article.
1. Study Theoretical framework Is the theoretical framework described? If there
is not a theoretical framework, should there be? Is there a clear link between the
framework and research questions/purpose? Any maps/models logically
presented?
2. Literature review Is the literature review relevant to the study,
comprehensive, and include recent research (within 5 years of the article)? Does
the literature review support the need for the study? Is it logically organized?
3. Constructs/Variables/Hypothesis - What are the constructs and concepts
they mention, or that you can reasonably infer? What are the variables that have
been identified for the study? Identify the different types of variables
Independent, Dependent, along with other exogenous and endogenous variables
that may be present.
4. Hypothesis Are there any hypotheses? Are they expressed appropriately and
clearly? List the hypotheses. What is the nature of the hypotheses? Are they
logically related to the research objectives and the framework?
5. Research Design Is the Research Design appropriate? Does the sampling
method fit the research design? Is the sample size sufficient? What Data
collection instruments were used for study? What are your views on the data
collection instruments?
6. Data Analysis Was the procedures used for analyzing suitable for the type of
data collected? Is the analytical approach consistent with the research questions
and research design? Are the results presented clearly in the text, tables and
figures? Are the statistics clearly explained?
7. Discussion - Are the results explained in relationship to the theoretical
framework, research questions, and the significance to your field of study?
8. Delimitations and Limitations Are the limitations and delimitations presented
and their implications discussed?
9. Conclusion Are there recommendations? What are your views on the
recommendations
