PersonalStatement

Ivecamealongwaysincefreshmanyear.Iaspiretobebiggerandbettereveryday
althoughsometimesitcanbedifficult.Ivehadmanyobstacles,manybadgrades,andmany
rebelliousmoments.IdontregrettheseexperiencesbecausethelessonsthatIlearnedfromthese
negativeexperienceshavemademetheyoungwomanIamtoday.

Ihavegonethroughmanyphasesandevents.Forinstance,suchastheoneIalludedto
before.Myfirstobstaclehappenedduringmyfreshmanyear.Itwasoneofthemostdifficultand
dauntingtimesforme.IgotbadgradesandbrokeanyrulesIknew,Iwasawalkingtornadoand
everyonethatwasnearby,Iwouldtakedownwithme.Iwasgoingthrougharoughtimeat
home.MymotherandstepfatherwhichwastheonlyfatherfigureIknewandloveddearly
separated.Ithoughtthatcausinghavocatschoolwouldgetmemoreattentionfrommyfamily.I
waslostandmostofallafraid.

Iwalkedintomycounselorsofficeandrealizeditwastimetochange,itwastimefor
growth.Afterthatday,Iturnedmywholelifearoundsociallyandeducationally.Ibegan
sophomoreyearatanewtechnologybasedschoolwhereIbegantochallengemyselfwith
rigorouscoursessuchasAPUSHistoryandAPEnglishLanguageandCompositionwhichI

excelledat,theywerelikesecondnaturetome.IalsotookcoursessuchasChemistryand
PhysicswhichterrifiedmesinceIstrugglewithmathematicsandequations.Iwasnot
necessarilythebestinChemistryandPhysicsbutitwasagreatlearningexperience.Inaddition
tochallengingmyselfeducationally,Ialsojoinedclubs,organizations,anddidvolunteerwork
whichwasnewtome.IvolunteeredatmylocalhospitalandalsoparticipatedinaDutch
AmericanFulbrightStudentExchangeProgramthatenrichedmyculturalandcommunication
skills.

WhenItellpeopleaboutmypasttheylaughandsaytheycannotimaginemebeingbad

year.IfeltlikeIwassetupfordisasterandfailurefreshmanyearbutthroughouthighschoolI
