Effective Rule
There is a limit to the legitimate interference of collective opinion with individual
independence; and to find that limit, and maintain it against encroachment, is as
indispensable to a good condition of a human affairs as protection against political
despotism -John Stuart Mill.
Is majority rule an effective way of government? To answer this question you must ask
yourself another. What method of government could be better? Monarchy?
Communism? Totalitarianism? To let the people of a community or nation, decide their
own future, is a major key to freedom.
Some say that having one person to decide the fate of a nation is the best way to
go, but as the history books show, that method proves to lead to demoralization and
death. The best example of this is the obvious Adolf Hitler. He took the power that the
people of his country have him, and overall turned against them and ended up killing
millions of people. Now it is hard to believe that this was his intention the whole time. It's
obvious to assume that once he had been elected, he had gone power crazy and had
highly abused it.
If not majority rule, than what government system would be just? A good
government system is a necessity. Overall, if we did not develop some type of
democracy, we, as a nation, would not be as successful as we are today.
