Plan, Do, Check / Study, Act

This is a draft for the conference on Experimentality at Lancaster in July 2010.

The aim is to show a connection for quality systems and learning. There are three sections -
• why would academics be interested in quality theory?,
• what is Plan, Do, Check / Study, Act
• as applied to social media around the conference and website.

There is a Facebook discussion on the "dark side" of Mode Two Knowledge. This is rarely explicit
but involves points of view that can limit acceptance for ideas about quality

There is a cloud on Cloudworks covering Plan, Do, Check / Study, Act. This is part of a
cloudscape so there will be more soon.

Meanwhile the social media aspect concentrates on a form of script for a discussion during a
walk. This assumes that quality ideas relate to technology innovation. So the sequence is through
a location with technology vision, a location for critique, and public space to evaluate a response
to the proposals. For the Lancaster campus this could be InfoLab21, the Hub in the Management
School and the Bowland cafe near the Learning Zone. For the city this could be the CityLab,
NICE at the Storey Institute, and LoveLunch. Art galleries have some of the role of critique.

There may be time for a walk in July but alternatively Tales of Things affords an online
connection through Quick Response (QR) codes. Similar sets could be possible for any city.
The Experimentality website already links to Flickr, Twitter and Facebook. Tales of Things can
add another aspect.
