GROVE CITY COLLEGE March 15,2016 ‘To Whom It May Concern: Lam writing this letter on behalf of Miss Jessica L. Rajm, who I have known for three years. Jessica was a student in my Issues in Education course, a senior capstone course which meets Grove City College requirements for the writing and speaking intensive and Information Literacy designation. She was also a student in the ‘Teaching Primary Literacy course, a field-based methods course in which the students work in a primary grade classroom to enhance the literacy teaching skills they are studying at the college. | also had direct contact with Jessica during the Student Teaching Seminar. Throughout this time, I have come to know Jessica as a responsible ‘and hard-working individual whose academic ability, strong character, and positive attitude came shining through in her endeavors As her professor, [ have had the opportunity to witness Jessica’s commitment to learning. I believe that her strengths lie in the areas of leadership, academic ability, and strength of character. Jessica completed assignments with much attention to detail, and contributed to classroom discussions, presentations, and projects with ‘enthusiasm. During the course of the semester she spent 7 weeks in a primary literacy classroom, honing her skills as a literacy teacher and developing rapport with the students. Jessica is a skilled communicator, displaying ‘enthusiasm and a sense of humor in her endeavors. As the director of Student Teacher Seminar, I had the pleasure to meet with Jessica on a weekly basis. She contributed to the seminar and was always prompt and prepared. Jessica’s wide experience in working with students of all ages it an asset and a testimony to her dedication to helping children learn. In addition to working in the schools in all subject areas, Jessica has volunteered for many additional hours of teaching including: a local school’s Literacy Night; the Mercer County Transition Day for special needs students transitioning from high school to the community; and the Community Fall Fest, a focal event for families. While a student at Grove City College, Jessica worked as a camp counselor for the YMCA and was @ Dean’s List with Distinetion student. Jessica is familiar with many instructional strategies and is able to incorporate creative aspects in her teaching, She is well versed in the use of technology and uses it to engage students in learning, Other instructional strategies employed by Jessica include: grouping for instruction, using manipulative materials for teaching mathematics, incorporating children’s literature with her lessons, and adapting lessons for special needs students, In addition, Jessica created and implemented thematic units which integrated instruction in Social, Science, Math, and Language Arts. I was very pleased to work with Miss Jessica Rajm, and would recommend her for any teaching position or graduate program for which she is qualified. Jessica demonstrates the strong work ethic, leadership skills, ‘commitment, and ability to become a successful teacher.
