Here is a list of questions I was able to ask while interviewing a RN at the

midland hospital.
What type of degree is required for a RN?
A Registered Nurse in Michigan holds an Associate degree in the science of
nursing or greater. Most nurses where I work have an Assc. but is is
becoming more common for the "new grad" hires to have a bachelor's.
How long did it take you to earn your degree?
I had all my prerequisites done by the age of 20,(2 & 1/2 years full time)
but I didn't go back for my two years of clinicals until I was 31 after a
couple of "catch up" classes. So I could have gotten my assc degree in
about 4 &1/2 years doing some spring and summer classes. So, I am now
working towards my BSN and I will have another two years by by the time
I'm done.
Where did you earn your degree?
I completed all my prerequisites at Delta college and transferred to
MidMichigan Community College for my clinicals.
What is the most exciting part about your job?
Seeing patients' recover quickly is exciting- knowing that the treatments
and medicines work. A "Code Blue" is also "exciting" in a different kind
of way, but it isn't like what you see on TV drama.

What is the least exciting part about your job?

The charting. We have to document every little thing we do for the patient,
how far they walk each day, how much they eat and drink, even how much
they pee. Everything ends up in the patient's chart. We spend allot of time
in front of a computer each day charting.
How many patients do you get to care for each day?
(I like the way you worded this question :) I work on a Progressive
Cardiac/Respiratory floor and our patients are a little sicker than a normal
floor, but not critical, and we take care of 3 to 4 patients at a time.
Sometimes when staffing is low we have to go up to 5, but that makes for a
very hard day.
Do you enjoy your job?
Very much so. Taking care of others is a very rewarding profession.
