#1 Problem Type: Just the eye, given distance from eye lens to retina (e.g. 1.

5 [cm]) and focal

lengths of eye lens (1.39 [cm] to 1.46 [cm]).
a. Find the near point of the eye:

p FP=54.75 [cm]

Note that far point of unaided eye is INFINITY if the focal length of the lens can be larger than
the eye lens to retina distance. So if the focal lengths were 1.39 [cm] and 1.6 [cm] and lens to
retina distance was 1.5 [cm], the far point of the eye is infinity!
#2 Problem Type: Wearing glasses or corrective lenses, given near and far points of unaided eye
(say the 18.95 [cm] and 54.75 [cm] above).
a. Glasses let person see clearly at infinity and keeps near point as close as possible, find new
near point of eye. Zero separation between glasses and eye lens.

e. Given power in diopters (say -2) of corrective lens and near/far points of unaided eye (say 20

New far point is INFINITY since focal length is between near and far points of unaided eye.
