To Whom It May Concern:
I am very interested in working for your school because of your focus on helping every student meet
his or her full potential. I strongly believe my background in special education and experience in
general education would contribute to your school district meeting this goal. I am qualified for a
special education position because of my multiple degrees earned at Michigan State University, my
experience as a member of the Urban Education Cohort Program (U.E.C.P.) as well as my current
teaching position as a 2nd grade general education teacher in Fowlerville, Mi.
When I decided to pursue a career in education, I knew that I had to bring my enthusiasm and
passion for learning and working with others into my classroom. For my students, this has been a
central component of my teaching style throughout my experiences in general and special education. I
have taught students in Title 1 schools, Basic Emotional Impaired classrooms, general education
classrooms and resource rooms! I have been able to create learning environments that focus on
alternative seating and meeting students individual sensory needs.
If I were to be hired by your school, I believe your students would benefit greatly. The students would
be taught using evidence based practices, multi-tiered support systems, inclusion based instruction as
well as data driven interventions. These would all be done with the Common Core Standards as a
guide. Students in Your school would benefit from my multi-sensory approach to teaching and would
become life long critical thinkers. I have experience developing peer mediated mentoring programs
for students with disabilities and have had the pleasure of building student relationships with one
another.
Through my teaching experiences, I have taught lessons, collected resources, and created materials
that support teaching all core subjects as well as life skills focusing on conflict resolution and social
action. I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to speak with you regarding the employment
opportunities for a special education teacher. Please feel free to visit my online portfolio or classroom
website to keep up to date with my current classs activities. Thank you for your time and
consideration.
Sincerely,
