Math and QR Codes Scavenger Hunt Lesson

Time frame: This will take one math period
Materials:
Mini iPads
QR codes posted around the room.
Scavenger hunt record sheet
Outcomes: Outcome: N3.2- Demonstrate
understanding of addition of whole numbers with
answers to 1000 and their corresponding
subtractions (limited to 1, 2, and 3-digit numerals)
I can statement: I can use different strategies to subtract 2-digit numbers
Lesson/Activity:
Intro: remind students of what we learned last day- provide example of 2-digit
subtraction without re-grouping on the board. Remind students of the
expectations when using iPads. Remind them of where the QR code scanner app
is on the iPads.
Lesson: Give students time to find the remaining QR codes and solve the
problems. Use the QR codes to check their answers. This will give immediate
feedback if they are correct. I will go around and help as needed.
Conclusion: Give students a choice of two questions to answer on a sticky note.
Get them to put the sticky on the reflection tree with their initials. I will review
these sticky notes to check for their understanding. Any students who need help
will come with me during RTI time that day.
Differentiation: pair students strategically to pick students that work well
together. Also, hide bonus questions for students finished early.
