Rationale:
Assessment and reporting are essential elements of the learning and teaching process and are vital to the
way students think about themselves and how they are engaged in the process of learning. Accurate and
comprehensive assessment of student performance aids in establishing open communication, guides
student learning, assists in establishing future direction, helps to identify areas of exemplary performance,
and those areas in need of support and assistance.
Assessment is the ongoing process of gathering, analysing and reflecting on evidence to make informed
and consistent judgements to improve future student learning.
Reporting is the process by which assessment information is communicated in ways that assist students,
parents, teachers and the education system in making decisions by providing information about what
students know and can do, along with recommendations for their future learning.
Aims:

To use information gathered through assessment for, of and as learning to understand student
learning and to support students progress towards achieving expected goals by providing regular,
constructive feedback.

To develop appropriate curriculum and pedagogy to meet students learning needs. This practice is
completed collaboratively enabling teachers to share their knowledge and understanding of
assessment and of student learning requirements.

To measure school and student performance accurately and comprehensively against state-wide,
national and like-school benchmarks.

Implementation:
Assessment
The Whole School Assessment Schedule provides the basis for school wide assessments and reflects
the recommendations outlined in DEECDs 6-18 Month Assessment Strategy released in 2010. Early
each year nominated assessment tools provide strong diagnostic information, which will inform initial
teaching for the year.
On entry to school all Prep students will be assessed using the English on Line Interview and the Early
Years Numeracy Interview as required by DEECD.
All Year One students are assessed using the Literacy Interview as required by DEECD
National Assessment Program _ Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is used to assess all Year 3 and Year
5 students, as required by DEECD. (See NAPLAN Policy)
Class diagnostic assessment results are forwarded to the Principal or Assistant Principal for discussion
at regular welfare meetings in order to ascertain students who may require additional support or
extension outside the classroom.

A range of assessment processes are incorporated into the learning program in order to inform
teaching practice and monitor the progress of individual students.
A selection of assessment pieces are accumulated in a students portfolio (please see Essential
Agreement on student portfolios.)

Reporting
Three Way Get to Know You Interviews will be held in first term.
Level 1 and Level 2 students will be involved in Three Way Interviews (parents, teachers, students) mid
year. (See Essential Agreement on Student Led Conferences and Three Way Interviews. )
Level 3 and Level 4 students will be involved in Student Led Conferences (parents, teachers, students)
mid year. (See Essential Agreement on Student Led Conferences and Three Way Interviews)
Written reports to parents occur twice yearly and include information on students achievement in
relation to Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS) and the Primary Years Programme Standards.
Reports communicate information in relation to current student achievement, future learning for the
student and how their parents can assist them in the learning process.
Reports are completed electronically using Markbook.
The ICT Co-ordinator in consultation with the management team, organises the reporting timeline and
maintains relevant databases and report templates.
In addition to formal reporting processes, teachers are available to meet with parents to discuss their
childs progress on request.
EVALUATION
