EXT. LAKE - DAY

A small row boat floats calmly under the glaring sun. Inside
the boat are -DAD, 30s, wearing a fishing hat and a permanent frown. He
sits at one end of the boat across from -RANDY, 10, Mets cap and T-shirt, wide-eyed, excited, stares
intensely at his fishing line.
Everything is still. Almost silent. The only sounds are
water against the boat, fishing reels, and birds chirping.
Dad looks down at his line. Nothing. He eyes the empty
cooler at his feet, checks his watch. Waves down his son.
Signs that it is time to go.
Randy signs back frantically asking for more time.
Dad signs that MOM is waiting with dinner.
Randy looks at the trees and mountains, breaths the fresh
air deeply. Smiles at his dad and signs, okay.
INT. KITCHEN - DAY
MOM, 30s, stands at the stove, cooks dinner.
Dad and Randy enter through the door.
Mom looks, Randy waves to her as he dashes by and upstairs.
Dad closes the door. Walks over to Mom.
She gives him a hopeful look.
MOM
Hmm..?
Dad slumps and looks sad.
DAD
Nothing.
Mom wipes hands, hugs husband. Dad breaks hug, kisses her
forhead, and leaves the room.

INT. RANDYS ROOM - DAY

Randy is sleeping. Open book lies on his chest.
SFX: Knock on door
Dad opens the door.
DAD
Dinn...er
He walks to the bed. Sits on the edge. Gentle picks up the
book and reads: June Seventeenth. Fathers Day. I just spent
the whole day fishing with my dad. It was the best day of my
life!
A single tear drops onto the ink.
Dad is crying. Closes the book, stares at his son. He
stands, puts book on the nightstand. Pulls blanket over
Randy. Leans down and kisses Randys forehead.
DAD
Yeah, me too, buddy.
Strokes Randys hair. Walks out of the room.
