5 Year Professional Development and Action Plan

Skill Objective #1 Develop ability to communicate publicly speak in a diversity of contexts


and audiences.

2016-17 Action Items: Seek public speaking resources as well as critically analyze and
reflect on peers public speaking. Teach College 101 class and take the lead on
facilitating student leader training.
2018-19 Action Items: Present research or workshop at NASPA regional conference and
engage in committee work. Seek mentorship from upper level executives on developing
reports and proposals.
2020-21 Action Items: Submit research article to peer reviewed journal, regional, and/or
national publications or professional resources.

Skill Objective #2 Develop supervisory style of students and professional staff while
providing high impact mentorship and support.

2016-17 Action Items: Seek professional and academic resources on supporting and
supervising students. Develop mentorships throughout region, NASPA, and ACUHO-I.
2018-19 Action Items: Engage in supervision and management workshops such as
University of Washington Professional and Organizational Development (POD) courses.
2020-21 Action Items: Supervise entry level professional staff member and use
resources to develop and adapt supervisory style.

Professional Goal #1 Contribute to the field through research of student gamer identity and
development of eSports programs.

2016-17 Action Items: Develop and direct eSports program at DigiPen Institute of
Technology. Develop relationships with other eSport program managers and gaming
industry professionals. Consult Seattle lawyer of eSports Bryce Blum. Identify research
skills for improvement.
2018-19 Action Items: Engage in eSports industry and the conversation around the
direction and role that universities play in the industry. Continue developing eSports
program into a robust model that meets the needs of students, the community, and the
institution. Further develop research skills.
2020-21 Action Items: Begin formal academic research on eSports program or gamer
student identity.
