chart. Show the calculation steps clearly. Each question carries 10
marks.
1. A man of East Coast region of West Malaysia has an affected child of
Phenylketonuria (PKU) , a genetic disorder inherited in an autosomal recessive
pattern, but dies in childbirth. After the death of his wife, he later marries his late
wife's half-sister, and she becomes pregnant. What is the chance that this child will
be affected? Draw the pedigree chart properly.
2. The pedigree below is from a family with cystic fibrosis, an autosomal recessive
condition. What is the best estimate that individual I-3 is a carrier of cystic fibrosis?

3. A Young lady has an affected brother with autosomal recessive thallasemia. She
marries her cousin whom the mother is a half sister of her father. What is the risk for
her to have:
a. affected child
b. carrier child.
4. A cross of rats of same phenotypes gave rise to 327 Dark short-tail rats, 990 dark
long-tail rats, 311 brown long-tail rats and 121 brown short-tail rats. Calculate the
probability and significance of the cross results. Show the pedigree of the cross up
to F2.
5. Colour-blind is a sex-linkage recessive gene. A colour-blind man married:
a. carrier woman
b. normal woman.
Show the pedigree of the cross and the phenotypic ratios of the above crosses.
