Osmosis Egg Lab

Biotech

Lab Partners: Roxy, Zach, and Martin
Date: November 10, 2015
Due: November 17, 2015

Introduction
We are studying this lab to find the difference between osmosis and diffusion. In
this lab, we will use a model of a living cell to predict the results of an experiment
that involves the movement of water the through a selectively permeable
membrane.
Hypothesis
I think both of the egg shells will dissolve.

Discussions
What was the purpose of soaking the eggs in vinegar at the beginning of the lab?
The purpose was to dissolve the egg shell.
Where was the greater concentration of particles for Egg 1 that was placed in
water?
There was more in the egg.
Where was the greater concentration of particles for Egg 2 that was placed in
syrup?
There was more in the solution.
Which egg was in a hypertonic solution? Explain.

Which egg was in a hypotonic solution? Explain.

Why is this lab a demonstration of osmosis and not another type of transport?
This lab demonstrates osmosis because only the water molecules are moving.
Why is this lab a demonstration of passive or active transport? How do you know?
Passive because the water particles are moving.
Conclusion
Overall this lab kind of helped me learn about osmosis and diffusion. But I am
still a little confused about it tho it helped me understand it better.
