brochure
Description:
Trifold brochure to advertise a flooring company.

Programs Used:
Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign

Date:
March 26, 2016

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 13 - Emily Kunz

Objective:
Set up and align a two-sided, folded document. Learn how to wrap text
around an image. Use paragraph styles in InDesign.

Process:
I first came up with the idea to design a brochure for a flooring
company. I created a logo using Adobe Illustrator using the skills Ive
learned through out this course. I used Adobe Photoshop to cut out an
image to use for the text wrap in the brochure. I cut the image out by
using the Magic Wand tool and then adjusting the settings to give it a
professional touch. Using Adobe InDesign, I setup the page for a trifold
brochure by setting up guides and allowing gutter space to account
for the folding. I used the Paragraph styles option to create the setup
for the headers and the body copy. I also used the Text Wrap tool to
wrap my text around the image that I cut out from Photoshop. I added
a few design elements to showcase the brochure and to give it a more
professional touch. I placed a total of four images throughout and I used
the logo twice in the brochure.

montage
Description:
Inspirational montage using two images to blend together, with the use
of typography.

Programs Used:
Adobe Photoshop

Date:
February 13, 2016

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 13 - Emily Kunz

Objective:
Learn to manage Photoshop layers. Learn to blend images together
smoothly, using masks. Use filters. Apply appropriate typography.

Process:
I found two images that I wanted to use for creating my montage. I
uploaded them into Adobe Photoshop. Using the tools in Photoshop,
(i.e. brush, cloning, and lasso) I was able to adjust the opacity of each to
blend the two images together. I used the cloning tool on the sky (top
left) to eliminate a small portion of landscape that distracted from the
image. I also used two separate fonts for the inspirational message. One
of the fonts used was to emphasize three words. I had to adjust the size
and position of the words to eliminate too much leading space between
the lines. I offset the first line from the other two lines.

photodesign
Description:
Photo design to demonstrate photography skills incorporated with good
use of colors from the photo taken.

Programs Used:
Adobe Photoshop

Date:
February 6, 2016

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 13 - Emily Kunz

Objective:
Learn basic photography skills. Use a digital camera to take a quality
image, then download it. Size and crop the image. Adjust image
brightness, contrast, hue and saturation levels. Use a selection tool to
isolate a portion of the image. Desaturate the selected portion of the
image. Use a flter or colorize a portion of the image.

Process:
After taking various photos, I chose a photo that I could use a color
scheme to work with from the colors in the photo. Using Photoshop, I
was able to edit the picture to get it how I wanted it to look. I added a
few rectangle boxes for my title and body copy. I needed to figure out a
way to include the color swatch I used and also the color scheme. I did
that by adding similar rectangles at the top for a design element, and a
way to use good repetition.

event ad
Description:
A full-bleed color event ad to promote a fundraiser using only a scanned
image and Microsoft Word.

Programs Used:
Microsoft Word

Date:
January 30, 2016

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 13 - Emily Kunz

Objective:
Find, scan and import a high-quality image. Create a full-bleed design.
Use text boxes for layout in Word. Insert and edit images in Word.

Process:
I started with finding an image in a magazine and scanned it to
my computer at 300 ppi (pixels per inch). Using Microsoft Word, I
organized the layout with text, color, and design elements. I placed
the image at the top and placed the title underneath. I used the yellow
background to match the yellows in the image. I used the gray text to
help contrast the yellow. For the design element, I used the line tool
to create the gray circles. I was amazed at how many options and tools
that are available in Microsoft Word.

flier
Description:
Grayscale flier to promote a leadership conference for graduates.

Programs Used:
Adobe InDesign

Date:
January 23, 2016

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 13 - Emily Kunz

Objective:
Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography. Incorporate
basic InDesign skills to improve basic fier layout. Create a project folder
with image, logo and InDesign document to keep links intact.

Process:
To begin this project, I started out with a few sketches to get some ideas
down on paper. Using InDesign, I then put those ideas into the design.
Given the content, logo, and image, I was able to move the pieces
around until everything fit. I added the black box at the top for the title
and used two different fonts that contrasted each other. I used both
fonts throughout the design. To add some contrast to the fonts, I used
the bold and italic options. I had my first draft critiqued by two
other individuals that were able to suggest changes I could make that
would allow the design to look more appealing. I made some changes to
the design after the feedback I received.

business card
Description:
Personally created logo designed for a company letterhead that matches
a business card.

Programs Used:
Adobe InDesign, Illustrator

Date:
January 27, 2016

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 13 - Emily Kunz

Objective:
Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image. Design consistent
layouts for a business card and letterhead. Use the basic tools of Adobe
Illustrator and InDesign.

Process:
Using Adobe Illustrator, I created a couple of logos for a company that
I could use for a letterhead and business card. I used the pen tool and
typography to create the logo. Once I decided on a logo to use, I used
Adobe InDesign to create the letterhead and business card. I placed my
logo and textures into the InDesign document and used typography to
create the contact information.
With the texture in the background on the business card, I created a
gray rectangle to go behind the texture to give it a little extra color
and dropped the opacity on the texture and the gray rectangle to allow
text to be visible to read. I created the building layout in Illustrator
to represent the construction of buildings, then placed it into the
document and added it to the front of the business card.

I was creating a letterhead for a construction company. I chose the
orange/yellow color to match construction colors as well.

logo
Description:
Logo design for a fitness company.

Programs Used:
Adobe Illustrator

Date:
February 20, 2016

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 13 - Emily Kunz

Objective:
Create a variety of logos to fit a company or personal image. Use the
basic tools of Adobe Illustrator.

Process:
I started by creating three different designs in Adobe Illustrator and
then getting feedback from about 10 individuals. Based off of their
feedback and making a decision, I chose the design I wanted to refine.
Using Adobe Illustrator, I was able to use the pen tool to create the
barbell and add text. I tried using different colors for the font and
ended up changing the color scheme from the first design. I also added
the black background to make the yellow text stand out. The oval or
pill shaped background resembles a supplement intended for working
out. I made the barbell a darker grey to make it a little more subtle.
After making the adjustments to how I wanted it to look, I made two
other copies. One copy in grayscale and the other in white on a color
background.

web page
Description:
A simple web page designed to showcase a logo I personally created.

Programs Used:
Notepad++

Date:
March 12, 2016

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 13 - Emily Kunz

Objective:
Size and optimize an original logo as a .png for a web page. Write
content to describe the process of creating your logo and how it appeals
to a target audience. Design a web page using HTML to display a
logo and content. Acquire a working knowledge of HTML and basic
understanding of CSS. Identify hex colors for web design. Compress
multiple files in a zipped folder to attach as one file.

Process:
Using the program Notepad++, I was able to create this web page with
HTML and CSS. Having a little background on using both HTML and
CSS, I was able to apply what I already knew and I was also able to
learn a few things that I hadnt learned before. I used an HTML and
CSS document that were pre-made for this assignment. I had to adjust
the image size, change fonts, background colors, add a link, and reposition a few elements (float, margin, and padding). After I made all
the changes to my page and got it to how I wanted it to look, I used an
HTML and CSS code validator to confirm that my code was correct.
