Introduction (Treatment of groundwater in the treatment plant)
A Groundwater Treatment Plant (GTP) is designed to ensure environmental remediation of
groundwater. It is part of an intergrated system generally made up of series of barrier wells for intercepting the aquifer and conveying the water thus intercepted to the treatment plant for purification before release into environment . Loji treatment water at Chicha, Kelantan is the biggest loji treatment at Kelantan state that able to provide maximum capacity of water at 85,000m3 water per day. It got 39 pumping source distributed at 7 different location. The main source of water is underground water and the water is pumped by using submersible pump(Grunfos). The location of wellfield is located at Pasir Hor, Padang Penyadap, Seribong, Pasir Tumboh, Kenali, Kubang Kerian, and Chicha. The treatment plant process consists of several steps, includes aeration, mixing, flocculation, sedimentation clarifier, sand filter, addition of chlorine and fluorine and clear water pumped into pumping station. The technologies for particle removal as filtration are used when anoxic condition in the source water requires oxidation to transform dissolved iron and manganese into insoluble compounds. Next important step will be recharging groundwater which includes the flocculation and sedimentation is for the extraction of raw water.
