My Kroup of debate students meets weekly for practice, which is where I see Yonah the most {Lis sometimes difficult to get high schoo! students focused and interested in debate, and even more difficult to get them to turn in their required research materials on time ‘Yonah, however, is one student I never have to worry about meeting deadtines. He will Bet me everything I need as soon as he can. and he is always eager to receive feedback on how he can improve, During debate practices he will ask any other student to debate him for practice, but unfortunately for Yonah he usually has to wait for other students to catch Up and finish their work, But Yonah is also the kind of student who will go out of his way tw help others. | recently had a freshman student join the team, and { barely had to do any work to help him because Yonah had all of his preparatory papers saved from his own freshman year, and he photocopied them to give to the new student. And Yonahs passion shows in his success. His sophomore and junior year he ranked among the top debaters in Fresno. At this point the season is early. but Yonah is doing better than he ever has, and 1 ‘um confident that he will have a very successful year Iis clear, however, that success is not Yonah's primary concern. Yonah strikes Ime as a man Who takes on tasks to build his own character. I tutor in the library at Sanger High, and whenever I see Yonah there other students seem to admire him and respect him very much. There are also many students | work with who frequent the weight room on campus, and most of them are envious of Yonah’s strength. But never once have | seen Yonah boast of his ability, instead he is humble and inspiring. In all of his endeavors, Yonah strives to better himself, and he doesn't undertake tasks for validation from other people. This is why | truly believe Yonah is one of the most mature and responsible students [ have ever had the pleasure of working with.
