The Golden Ages FAQ (unofficial)*

Compiled by Ferdinand Kther

Q: Founding a city Do you collect money (as usual) even if your cubes were only relocated
from some other place on the map?
A: Yes.
Q: Founding a city When relocating cubes on the map, can you take them from any of your
cities? Can you take just one cube from a city built of two cubes?
A: Yes, and yes.
Q: Discard buildings Are you allowed to discard a building that you had activated (used)
during this game round and replace it with a new one that you could still activate this same
game round?
A: Yes.
Q: Roman Empire and Arabia Their power to buy building cards w/o placing a colonist
on the Agora seems to be permanent. Does that mean that they can use it as often as they want
(and is possible) during a game round?
A: This power is permanent, and they can use it as often as they want (and is possible) during
a game round.
Q: Portugal The Portuguese earns 3 gold each time when crossing the east/west dateline.
Does this apply also when using aviation?
A: Yes, each time when using aviation the Portuguese collects 3 gold once. However, they
cannot circuit the globe more than once during one turn.
Q: Continent tiles Concerning placement rules, are continent tiles on the east and west
border considered adjacent?
A: No.
Q: When exactly do you take control of a resource?
A: Whenever one of your colonists/city is placed on a square where you have no colonists or
city, you take control of the resources of the square.
Therefore:
- when you move and found a city, you get money from controlling resources and placing
cubes;
- when you move and don't found a city (typically, because it's an island printed on the map
OR there's an opponent's city and you don't want to/may attack), you get money only from
controlling resources;
- when you move into a square where at present is one of your colonists (but not a city) and
found a city, you get money only from placing cubes (very rare case indeed);
- when you attack and found a city, you get money from controlling resources and placing
cubes;
- when you attack and don't found a city, you get money only from controlling resources;
- when you attack with rocketry and don't found a city, you don't get anything because you
have no colonist nor cities on the square.
