A Storm is Close

The bus ride home took ages. As I gazed out the window, I pondered
about the war that was bound to destroy us all. I worried about my family,
my friends, everybody, really. The street lamps were littered with posters, all
with the same words and images printed on it. WE ARE INVINCIBLE is
printed across the top in overbearing bold black letters that remind me of
those TV commercials that are trying way too hard to get your attention.
Below is a picture of North Korea with a menacing red X lying across the
Dictatorship. For nine years, we have been at war. For nine years, children
have been practicing drills in case a bomb goes off at school. In that same
nine years, there has somehow been no bombs dropped, but it is inevitable.
In 2016, North Korea kept on performing tests that were much more
stressful than those done at school; these ones were nuclear. After a year of
warnings, North Korea had kept on launching missiles and testing satellites.
The UN decided to do something about this. BAD IDEA. As it turns out, North
Korea had been preparing for war since the 1960s; they had recovered from
their civil war a lot faster than what seemed imaginable. What about the
famine, the millions who have died and suffered from starvation? It was all a
hoax. Yup, you heard me right. Kim Jong II and his father starved his people
to give the appearance that they were a vulnerable country that needed help
so stronger nations would come to their aid. All of us fell for it. Every.
Single. One. Of. Us.
Nobody knows how or where North Korea got the money from, and
they are not going to reveal their secret any time soon. If we knew this,
dozens of countries wouldnt have donated soldiers to invade the secretive
country. First, we penetrated the labor camps, since that is where many
rebels are located. Thats where things went wrong. As a matter of fact, in
the labor camps, the prisoners are trained to become cold-blooded killers.
These assassins are brain-washed to only protect people loyal to the country
and to kill everyone else. To make it worse, they have been trained in a form
of martial arts that has never been seen before by the outside, which made
them unpredictable. The reason the soldiers had no chance at survival was
because that they had knives. Following the invasion was a bloodbath that
was possibly the worst in history that obliterated the soldiers and the
confidence that North Korea would be easily overtaken. The few soldiers that
hadnt been killed headed inward and came upon a village where they were
immediately captured by unsuspecting people. The soldiers were then

tortured in a variety of ways that are too sick and twisted to talk about. The
UN was informed of the failed invasion and capture soon after.
There was then a big movement by the rest of the world to release the
remaining soldiers following the failed invasion. Nobody but North Koreas
government knows the answer to why they were never released, but
everybody forgot about the doomed fighters after what happened the year
after that. North Korea started invading surrounding countries. First, they
conquered South Korea, then Japan. They kept on expanding until they
eventually invaded all of China. Almost all of the remaining countries sent
troops to nations surrounding the expanding empire and the United States
used its first draft since 1972 in the Vietnam War. As North Korea slowed
down its expansion, America started using all kinds of propaganda
techniques. One of them was the house that was invincible. The
propaganda house, as we like to call it, is the White Houses replacement,
which is supposedly strong enough to survive a nuclear bomb. The house is
also complete with technological advancements only billionaires can afford.
And yes, you guessed it! Thats where the presidents family lives. The
propaganda house is supposed to symbolize that the nuclear bombs wont
affect us. Im not sure who came up with that idea, but North Korea sure
didnt like it. The same genius decided to place the house in California,
which is much easier for North Korea to invade or bomb than its previous
location in Washington D.C. There were also sirens placed every ten miles
from each other, covering the whole country so if we happened to know
beforehand if a bomb is dropped. This investment sure helped our debt to
China, which is now a part of North Korea. So yeah, the world is pretty
messed up right now.
I am almost at my stop. What would the world be like if humans were
gone? I get off the bus and now Im walking home. I pass a young couple
walking a happy dog. Why do humans exist anyways? What is our purpose?
I see a group of children playing an energetic game of tag. What would Earth
be like if we never existed? I pass a flower bed filled with lilies. A
mechanical scream shattered the silence.
