‘To Whom It May Concern:
Itis with great pleasure that I write this letter of recommendation for Katlyn Bare, a Miami University student
teacher under my supervision for the 2015 fall semester. Ms. Bare is one of the best pre-service teachers I have
ever mentored,
Katlyn interned for 16 weeks at Loveland Middle School in Loveland, Ohio with Lauren Cripe, teaching seventh
grade language arts. I knew from my initial observation that Ms. Bare possessed an intrinsic ability to relate to
young people. She quickly established a close rapport with her students due to her genuine interest in their lives
inside and outside of the classroom. Katlyn possesses a passion for learning that she easily transfers to her
students. She also has a pleasant personality and healthy sense of humor, which I believe are vital assets in this
profession.
Ms. Bare is a natural in the classroom. She prepared detailed lesson plans well in advance of their presentation.
Her activity-packed lessons proved she used the educational knowledge gained from her methods classes at
Miami in aligning appropriate content standards with carefully chosen, engaging activities. Katlyn created
learning situations in which students worked independently, collaboratively, and as a whole class. Ms. Bare
‘communicated clearly and effectively. Each day she wrote the class goals and agenda on the board for all to see,
and discussed the goals and agenda with the students when class began. Katlyn also excelled in using technology
to create high-interest, innovative activities for her students. Her classroom management skills could be
characterized as those of a seasoned teacher. Although her demeanor was easy-going, Katlyn demanded respect
for authority and disciplined her students with a gentle, but firm hand.
Professionally, Katlyn took her job as student teacher very seriously. She arrived early and stayed late if needed.
Katlyn consistently treated all her students fairly and established a classroom environment that was respectful,
supportive, and caring. She collaborated with the faculty, which earned her high praise from her colleagues and
the administration. As a capstone of her experience, Katlyn helped write a grant for stand-up desks for the
school
Our young people need committed, enthusiastic, and dedicated teachers. Katlyn Bare will be an outstanding
addition to your school’s faculty. Therefore, | highly recommend Ms. Katlyn Bare for a secondary
English/Language Arts teaching position.
Sincerely,
Nancy L. Jhékson Prokeon—
