Quinney College of Natural Resources Scholarship Committee,
It is with joy that I write to you to recommend Evelyn Hunt for consideration for the Utah State University for the College of Natural Resources. Evelyn has been a student of mine for the past two years. During that time she has shown strong talent and a solid work ethic. I first got to know Evelyn in my honors chemistry class two years ago. Evelyns performance in the class shows a strong talent for science and understanding difficult concepts. She produced very high quality work in both her on going home work assignments and in her laboratory work done in class. Evelyn was able to gain firm understanding of the concepts and was a valuable person to help explain the ideas to her class mates in a way that was non-condescending and relatable. This year I have had the pleasure of having Evelyn in my Environmental Science class. She has been a key person in classroom discussions; able to move the conversation further along and articulate bigger ideas and concepts in a way that helps her classmates come to a better understanding of the ideas we are learning about. Evelyns written work in this class is superb! She has the ability to write clearly about complex ideas, competing demands, viewpoints, etc. She is also able to articulate and synthesize ideas into her own in a robust fully thought out manner. Evelyn has expressed how much she would like to study in the environmental science fields at the university level. Has shown great interest with the subject matter in class and has brought up many ideas and subjects that she is reading about for her own pleasure to discuss with the class. Through these discussions it is clear to me that she has spent considerable time and effort to learn much about conservation of species and endangerment of species and certain environments through her own efforts using her own time. Evelyn is driven to learn about what she cares about and wildlife conservation is an area that she cares about a great deal. I have full confidence in Evelyns ability to be successful at the collegiate level. Evelyn is a talented student with a drive that shows in her work and her preparation for school. I recommend Evelyn Hunt for this scholarship without reservation. If you have any further concerns, please email me at sbanks@ames-slc.org. Sincerely, Susan Banks
