Summary
The field of Greek songs has gradually started to comment the contemporary crisis. The certain
interest -expressed both in lyrics and interviews of musicians- is not concerning only the known
creators with political commitment from the past, but also those artists who are characterized
as popular stars of the Greek music industry. In this essay the particular artistic discourse is
going to be tested as a significant first sample of the expression of the traumatized atomism
cultivated in Greece during the post dictatorship period. The songs which are analyzed,
emitting either the dominant nationalist-populist discourse or a critical reflection about the
main dimensions of the modern identities and social roles, compose an interesting corpus for
the study of narcissism which has been dominant in the recent past but is strongly endangered
nowadays.
