U-Boats
Poison Gas
Poison gas was originally used by the French.
However, its first appearance was on April 22,
1915 by the Germans who used it large scale. It
caused major health complications for the soldiers; damaging their respiratory organs. It was
a subtle yet silent killer for the soldiers.

The U-boat, also known as the Unterseeboot,

was first used by the German navy. Most of the
U-boats used diesel engines. They were underwater vessels, causing the opponents to not be
able to see an oncoming attack, and making the
enemy difficult to locate.

Convoy System
The British introduced the convoy system, which
would take merchant ships across the Atlantic
Ocean in groups under the protection of the
British Navy. The need for this system came to
be after the German U-boat attacks. As a result
of the creation of the convoy system, German U
-boat damage and submission of the British declined.

Zeppelins
The zeppelins were first used by the Germans
in World War I. They were light, filled with
hydrogen, and made of a steel framework.
They were used to attack towns of Britain
through bombings, and take them away from
the war in the trenches. This caused danger to
those even off the battlefield, and made aware
the need for an areal defense system.

Automatic Machine Gun

The automatic machine gun would typically sit
on a flat tripod, with four to six operators.
The advantages of the machine was that it
could fire more that a dozen rounds in the
time it would take to reload and fire a manual
rifle. At first, the British did not see a real
use to the invention, giving Germany the opportunity to use it in the war first.

Airplane
Both sides in World War I used the airplane.
Throughout the war, it became more sophisticated and advanced, being modified to fit the
needs of the war. Two uses the airplane had
were for fighting and for bombing. The aircrafts greatly influenced the use of bombing in
wars.
