OPPORTUNITY IS THE SOURCES OF INNOVATION

As we know that where ever there is an opportunity there is a maximum source for an
Innovation. For innovation technology plays an important role. Technology plays a key role in
deciding a country’s or company’s future .In innovations that are based on process need,
everybody in the organization always knows that the need exists. Innovation starts with the job to
be done. It is mainly focuses on the task to be done rather than situation .It prefects a process that
is weak. However, when the innovation appears it is immediately accepted as obvious and soon
becomes standard. Innovation depends upon the needs. People who are working in the
organization feel that they need an innovation but they won’t go for it until it is discovred. When
an innovation is done in a particular field it is accepted as a standard need. Innovations which are
done should be focused because it produces the required solution for the need.

For example:-

Ottmar Mergenthaler designed the linotype for type settings in 1885 during the
preceding decade printing materials of all kinds magazines, newspapers, books had all been
growing at an exponential rate with the spread of literacy and the development of transportation
and communication. This example shows the revolution in printing industry.

The present rush into robotics is largely the result of a process need caused by demographics.
The consequences of the “baby bust” became apparent to major manufacturers in the industrial
countries, especially in Japan and the United States where there was a fight between machines
and humans i.e. machines are replacing the humans. Countries like Japan are not ahead in
robotics because of technical superiority and most of the parts are coming from United States. It
took Japanese as well as Americans and Germany 10 years to realize that they are facing labour
shortage.

For example:-

Mergentthaler’s linotype was also in large measure the result of demographic pressure. It
replaced 5 every expensive craftsman with one semi skilled machine operator i,e. it one machine
is replacing 5 labors.

Successful Innovations based on process needs require 5 basic criteria

1. Self- contained process

2. One weak or missing link
3. A clear definition of the objective
4. Specifications for the solution can be dcefined clearly.
5. Widespread realization that there ought to be a better way I,e. high respectivity.
