University. Iam asking for your help in identifying academically talented
females for our annual summer camp, Project: WISE, which will be held this
year trom Sunday, June 12th, through Friday, June I’
Tam asking you to publicize the program fo rising 7° and 8" grade girls who
show interest in wid aptitude for math or science. Students ave chosen frou
across the state based on their grades in math and science, and on their letters of
recommendation.
Once campers arrive they are divided into randomly selected groups. The groups
rotate through mint-courses in STEM disciplines. The courses are taught by some
of Clemson's most distinguished professors, several of whom are women, and by
local high schoo! teachers.
In order to enhance the girls’ ability to work with others, the Clemson University
Outdoor Lab conducts team-building activities in preparation for the week's
activities. During their stay, campers also participate in other extracurricular
activities such as dance and self-esteem classes.
Project WISE campers live in one of the University residence halls. Their
counselors are Clemson undergraduate or graduate women majoring in science,
‘mathematics or engincering. College students live with the eampers to provide
assistance during the program as well as oversee activities in the residence hall.
‘The counselors play a vital part as positive role models for the girls during their
week at Clemson University
‘The cost of the camp is $850.00. There are need-based and academic
