Competitive Analysis
Introduction
This paper is to compare and contrast the major football camps along the 1-15 corridor
in Utah. The purpose of this document is to provide the owners and potential investors
of The Sports Camp, LLC with valuable information on how The Sports Camp, LLC
measures up to the competition. Many youth already attend these camps, so we would
need to segment ourselves properly to fill an unmet need. To find where that need is, a
perceptual map will be provided in Appendix 1. Appendix 2 will include a chart summary
of the competition. A discussion of the competition follows.
Competition
We focused on major camps in the area, using a Google search and the websites of the
companies. The major camps include those hosted by universities. There are more
university football camps than we profile here, but we focused on university camps that
would pull away from our target market and location along the I-15 corridor. These are
BYUs football camp and the University of Utah football camp. We modeled our
business after All Poly Sports Camp in Layton and will continue to use them as a
benchmark for our own company. We wanted one more private football camp included
in the analysis and found The Sports Revolution, based more north of the point of the
mountain than in Utah County where we will be located.
BYU Football Camp
BYUs football camp is located in Provo, the heart of our target market location. They
offer different four-day camps for different age groups with or without housing. Housing
costs an extra $100 and includes breakfast and dinner. Lunch is provided for all
participants. Participants will also receive a camp t-shirt.
For junior, grades 4-9, it costs $309. This camp is for June 13-16 or 27-30. These
camps include the chance to warm up with past BYU athletes. This camp is nonpadded. BYUs padded football camp, same days, is for youth grades 8 and up. It costs
$329. Participants must bring their own pads. BYUs new coach, Kalani Sitake, will be
coaching this camp along with his staff. This camp will also have guest speakers. They
also have day camps for youth ages 6-11. These are split into morning and afternoon
sessions. The cost for one session is $105, $175 for youth to participate in both a

morning and afternoon session with another $35 for lunch. This camp is non-padded
and coached by Sitake and his staff. The dates for this camp are June 6-8 and 9-11.
University of Utah Football Camp
The University of Utah football camps are coached by current players and coaches from
the university. Campers receive a t-shirt and lunch. Camp is located at the college
campus in Salt Lake City, Utah. They offer a three-day full-padded camp for $250 on
June 6-8 and 16-18 for grades 3-9. Camp runs from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on day one, until 3
p.m. on day two, and until noon on day three. For athletes grade 2-6, they offer a halfday-camp (8 a.m. to noon) that is non-padded, for $40. This camp has only 90 minutes
of play time and includes lunch. The University of Utah also has a 7-on-7 for teams to
compete in. Coaches pay $350 for the whole team, up to 20 players on the roster. This
tournament is June 4. Their Lineman Challenge is $150 for teams of eight, also held the
same day. Both of these are for grades 9-12.
All Poly Sports Camp
All Poly Sports Camps runs camps out of Ellison Park in Layton, Utah. Their camps are
three days long, separated into two groups, June 14-18. Underclassmen camp is for
grades 8-10. The early registration (December 1- February 29) cost is $175, mid
registration (March 1- May 1) is $225, and late registration (May 1-10) is $275 and the
walk-up fee is $300. The cost for varsity athletes follows the same timeline with prices
at $225, $300, $350, $400. Their camps are coached by pro-athletes, student athletes,
and coaches who are mostly of Polynesian descent; the camp is open to all ethnicities.
Their camps focus on Attidue, Academics, and Athletics, as well as introducing athletes
to the Polynesian culture. The camps are full-contact with no lodging or meals provided.
They also do not offer refunds. Their camp is associated with NFL Play 60. Each camp
has roughly 8 hours total of play time, mixed with some academic sessions. They
provide dinner on day 2.
Sports Revolution Football Camp
Sports Revolution football camps are for ages 7-14. Coaches comes from the University
of Utah. Camps are non-padded. The camps are located throughout Salt Lake and
Davis counties. They offer a summer training package that will include speed training for
a month in May and a four-day camp in June or July. These packages are regularly
$280 but are marked down for $250. The local camps are four-days for two hours of
practice in the evening, Monday through Thursday, various weeks in June and July. The
cost for these is regularly $130, but are currently marked down to $115. Athletes are
provided with a t-shirt.
The Sports Camp, LLC

After reviewing the competition, we have decided to base our camps in Utah County at
a park. Camps are for ages 12-18, split into two groups. Junior high athletes and
freshman athletes cost $100 for camp with early registration. Sophomore to senior high
school athletes cost $150. We may increase our price as camp gets closer. Our camps
are three days during June 20-25. Camps are non-padded. Our coach played college
football at Snow College in 2006. Camps run 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will mostly be drills
and training, with an hour for lunch and an hour for a guest speaker each day. Lunch is
not included.
Conclusion
We have used this information to determine our location away from most of the
competition and to price ourselves lower than the closest camp. We feel this will give us
an edge. Because we are priced so low we could increase prices as camp gets closer,
rewarding customers for registering early. We felt that this lower cost and easier access
would give us a boost over the other companies that have more famous coaches.
