Mayo Clinic Hospital 5777 E. Mayo Blvd. Phoenix, AZ, 85054 Dear Ms. Jane Doe: I am interested in Mayo Clinics 1-year Intensive Care Unit nursing residency program because I enjoy working in situations with higher acuity patients and problem solving to help them recover. I chose Mayo Clinic because of the high reputation it has as a first class care facility and I believe it will be the best place to further my skills and procedures. My desire is to start my professional career in a residency program to increase my skills, education, and confidence in the field of intensive care nursing. My passion is detailoriented skills and looking at a health care problem to find a way to alleviate pain, symptoms, or the cause of an ailment. I have graduated from the University of Arizona College of Nursing with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and will complete the board exam within the month of May. I have a year of experience as an Emergency Medical Technician with University EMS, which exposed me to stressful situations, critically thinking, and adapting my thought processes as I assessed patients. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience in the Intensive Care Unit at St. Josephs hospital for 10 weeks with 120 hours of patient care where I practiced detailoriented assessments and skills, including building rapport with patients and their families. In my undergraduate career, I worked as a student worker in the University of Arizonas Medical School to gain more experience in the health field and to interact with doctors. I learned how to interact with professionals, organize the schedules for medical students doing their rotations in the Psychiatry Department, and to collaborate with my coworker to create the best system in our workstation. I would be a positive addition to the Intensive Care Unit residency program at the Mayo Clinic. I believe I am qualified and warranted for this opportunity because I am goaldirected and have experience in emergency medicine. My ability to think critically, build rapport with patients, and be detail oriented will aid me with the education your program can provide. I would appreciate an opportunity to interview for a nursing position in your program. You may reach me at my cell phone number and email listed below. Thank you for considering my application.
