APPENDIX A—SPECIFICATION FOR WELDED JOINTERS (NORMATIVE) AA Method Welding of any type that uses deposited filler metal and is generally recognized as sound practice shall be permitted unless the purchaser specifies a particular method. Welding procedures, welders, and welding machine operators (hereaf- ter called operators shall be qualitied in accordance with API Suandard 1104, Copies of the welding procedure specification ‘and procedure qualification recerd shall be provided to the purchaser upon request A2 Workmanship ‘The ends of the pipe 10 be welded together shall be prepared in acoordance with the requirements of the procedure 10 be used. Where the orientation of the defect permits the repair weld shall be placed in the circumferential direction B23 The repair weld shall be made cther by automatic submergedare welding, gas meti-are welding, or mantal shielded metalarc welding using lowshydropen electrodes. ‘The meal temperature in the area to be repaired shall be & ‘minimum of SO°F (10°C). The welling procedure and performance shall be ‘qualified in accordance with Appendix C. B.3.3 Each length of repaired pipe shall be tested hydro- statically in accordance with 9.4. GAA When a repair weld is made through the full wall ‘thickness, it shall include weld passes made from both the 1D and the OD of the pipe. BAS The repair shall be ground to merge smoothly into the orginal comtour of the pipe and shall have @ maximum crown of 0.06 in, (1.52 mm). BAB Repaired pipe shall be hydrostatically tested ater rep in accordance with 94. APPENDIX C~-REPAIR WELDING PROCEDURE (NORMATIVE) C1 General All repair welds shall be made in the fat positon accord- ing toa qualified procedure and by 2 welding machine opera- tor (hereafter called operator) or repair welder who is ‘alified in a flat position as specified in C.2. Repair welds may be made by ane of the following methods: &. Automatic submerged are. 'b Automatic or semi-automatic gas metal ar ¢. Mansa shielded metal arc using low-hydrogen electrodes. All welding materials shall be properly handled and stored in accortance with the manufacturer's recommendations so 8 to preclude moisture or other contamination, Test welds ‘may be made on either plate stock or pipe stock at the option ‘of the manufacturer. ‘The manufacturer shall maintain a record of the welding procedure and procedure qualification test results. Copies of the welding procedure specification and procedure qualifica- tion record shall be provided to the purchaser upon request. 2 Repair Welding Procedure Gcaication® ‘Welding procedures shall be qualified by preparing and testing welds in accordance with this appendix, At the option of the manufacturer, the tests specified in the ASME Boiler dnd Pressure Vessel Code, Section 1X. may be substituted herein. For the purpose of this appendix, the term automatic ‘welding includes both machine welding and automatic weld: ing as defined inthe ASME Boiler and Pressure Yessel Code, Section IX. 2.1. ESSENTIAL VARIABLES An existing procedure shall not be applicable and new pro- ‘cedure shall be qualified when any of the following essential variables is changed beyond the stated limits: 1 Welding process: 1. A change in the welding process, such as submerged arc lo gas metal arc. 2. A change in the method, such as manual to semi- automatic. Pipe material: 1. A change in grade caegory, When diffrent alloying systems are used within one grade category, each alloying ‘composition shall be separately qualified. Grade catego- Fes are as follows: KAQand < X65 each prade 2 X65 2. Within each grade category, thicker material than the material qualified. 3. Within the grade category and thickness range, a car- ‘bon equivalent. The addition or deletion of post-weld heat weamneat 62.2 MECHANICAL TESTING 2.2.1 Number of Tests ‘Two specimens of each type ae required fram each proce: dure qualification test. 2.22 Transverse Tensile Test ‘The transverse tensile test specimens shall be approxi- ‘mately 1.5 in. (38.1 mm) wide and shall have the transverse ‘butt weld perpendicular to the longitudinal axis atthe center Of the test specimen (See Figure C-1 or Figure 4.) The weld -einfoecemment shall be removed from both faces. C313 Test Failures If one or more of the tests in C.3.1.2 fail to meet the speci- fied requirements, the welder or operator may make one addi- tional qualification weld. If that weld fails one or more ofthe tests in C3.1.2, the welder oc operate is disqualified. No fur- ther retest shal be permitted until the welder has completed additional training. €.3.2 REQUALIRCATION ‘Requalification in socordance with C.3.1 is required under the following circumstances: 4 One year has elapsed since the last prior applicable valification. ‘The individual has not been welding using qualified proce- dure fora petiod of 3 months. «.
