Plagiarism

Plagiarism is the use of other peoples ideas and claims without acknowledgement of the
source of that information thus the Republic Act 8293 or the Intellectual Property Code of the
Philippines was implemented to provide resolutions and provisions against it.
I.

Using other peoples ideas and claims without the acknowledgement of the
source of that information is known as Plagiarism.
A. Plagiarism is rooted from the word plagiary(us) which means kidnapper or
plagi(um) meaning kidnapping.
B. There are numerous cases of plagiarism in the Philippines.
1. Some of the famous cases come from the political sector because this is
mostly watched by the media.
2. Plagiarism cases occur in governmental agencies.
3. It takes place in the academe where in it can be committed in many
ways influenced by various factors.

There is a law in the Philippines which concerns of copyright and that is the
Republic Act No. 8293, or more commonly referred as the Intellectual Property

Code of the Philippines.


Resolutions have been made to stop it from reoccurring however it is still
essential to note that even if the public consider different alibis as sufficient
claims to back reasons as to why plagiarism was committed, one must still
consider the importance of the seemingly ill-used intellectual honesty.
A. Resolutions were made to lessen the pain that was inflicted into the victim of
plagiarism.
1. One of these resolutions is the correction of the wrongdoing of the
plagiarist.
2. Apologizing in public is one way to help avoid a more humiliating
announcement of one's wrong.

3. If no harm has been done, no person has been insulted, and no law has
been broken, another resolution for the plagiarist is the retraction of his
copied work.
B. The importance of knowing such laws reside on the maintenance of ethics
among the public as it challenges to spur the growing deprivation of
intellectual dishonesty.
