‘The Language and Composition course of Advanced
Placement English isa spring-semester elas that teaches
‘young writers skills that relate to effective writing
niques.
The:
tudent will be writing ina variety of different forms of
discourse including analytical, argumentative, expository and
narrative essays, and ina variety of writing styles. tn alton,
students will continuously engage in peer= and self-editing
techniques devised fo maximize the potential of each writer
Students will be read a variety of texts designed to help them
velop the critical acumen necessary to disseet text at a
collegiate level. Students will participate in tasks designed to
{mprove individual vocabulary, understand the importance of|
ietion and syntax inthe development of a specific author's
work, become Familiar with a wide aray of thetorieal device
and. continue fo learn andl use standard grammar requirements

Goals of the Course
Students will beable to analyze the rhetorical strategies,
niques, and organizational modes of effective texts and be
sible to relate how the text addresses the author's audience and
achieves the author's purpose

variety of purposes.
Students will beable to produce expository, analytical and
argumentative compositions that introduce a complex central
idea and develop it with appropriate evidence drawn from,
primary and/or secondary sources, cogent explanations, and
