RE: Vote NO on Confirmation of UC Regent Nominee Charlene Zettel

Dear Senator Steinberg:

The University of California Union Coalition (UCUC), representing over 60,000

workers throughout the University of California system urges that you VOTE
NO on the confirmation of Regent Charlene Zettel.

UC Regent-nominee Charlene Zettel has demonstrated her inability to

effectuate meaningful change for workers at the University. Until recently,
as a result of workers stanuch opposition to her nomination, she
refused to include all stakeholders in promoting solutions that
advance the cause of justice for working families. Her disregard for
workers rights is a disservice to her constituents in San Diego and beyond,
and particularly the lowest-wage service workers within the UC system.

Charlene Zettel, Republican Gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman's booster,

has stood firmly blocking the path towards progress. Of course, that should
be held as no surprise, as Meg Whitman has made it clear she intends to
devastate state services for many of our communities by laying off 30,000
state workers, many of who earn decent middle class wages and benefits.

During her first year as a UC Regent, Charlene Zettel has no significant record
to prove she is qualified to lead—or even advise on—the world’s preimer
public university system, and in a time of 32% fee increases and significant
layoffs, She has no experience leading on the issues that matter most to
students, workers and their parents.

Again, we urge that Senators stand united with UC unions and VOTE NO on
the confirmation of nominee Charlene Zettel.
