The Kiss

The Kiss (Lovers) was painted by the Austrian Symbolist painter Gustav Klimt
between 1907 and 1908. It shows a boy kissing a girl. They are apparently
young. Their body is painted in a very realistic way, but everything around
them, even their clothes, have
squared or round patterns. Theyre
standing in a kind of meadow.
It looks like they are trying to have
intimacy. The background is painted
with a dull colour, but the ones in their
clothes are brighter, so we can
distinguish a contrast. They are very
cheerful and the artist has included
lots of them. Many colours are seen,
such as yellow, blue, green or black.
In The Kiss, Klimt shows how hard was
for a couple to have privacy. It seems
that they were looking forward to that
moment. Taking into account the
period in which the painting was
created, we can say that this is an action that wasnt always allowed in
society. It was thought that it was an act of defiance. In my opinion, the
painting is very interesting and very well done. I had the opportunity to
admire it live when I was in Austria and it is really awesome and big.
